Sathya Sai Baba told devotees of a global disaster
to happen in December, 1998. It did not happen
Also hepredicted nuclear pollution and other events
to a group of New Zealanders - which proved false.

Early in 1998, a report was published by Sai Towers in its journal 'Spiritual Impressions', as follows:-Article as it appeared in Sai Towers' monthly magazine 'Spiritual Impressions' (March/April 1998, p. 37).
A photo of Sai Baba was pasted over the text in most of the edition. When steamed off, the underlying report was headed "Kodai Sessions" and stated what he said in a discourse at Kodaikanal, as follows:-

"From the 14th of April, Tamil New Year's Day, Swami gave continual discourses. There was the absolutely stunning news (and so because it was from Swami) in the very first 15th of December 1998, Swami declared the axis of rotation of Earth shall shift.
In other discourses Swami mentioned the effects of the embalance; melting of glaciers at the poles, rising of water level on the planets surface, earthquakes. Never before has Swami spoken so directly about a future event.
"

The Prahsanti ashram was alive with this warning - told 'confidentially' - when I was there in October-November 1998. I was personally told this by a recently retired Spanish airline pilot (who I knew from Brindavan in 1994 and who had resided in the ashrams since then but for short visits to Spain). I met him during darshan (5-10-1998) and who had spoken to some people from the interview. He said that Sai Baba reportedly predicted an airline stoppage world-wide at the beginning of November - possibly only for a few days, because 'Swami' had invited many to visit on his birthday - 23rd of November. See scan of my notes made at the time

Months later, an ashram source reported that, when Sathya Sai Baba found out about the printed report in 'Sai Impressions', he sent his officials hot-foot to Sai Towers to make Mr. Padmanabhan, the editor, withdraw the whole issue. The same source told that the messenger from Sathya Sai Baba informed Padmanabhan that what 'Swami' had said was specifically meant only for (the benefit of?) those who had heard it! However, it was also reported widely by interviewees that Sathya Sai Baba had warned them not to fly at that period around December 15, 1998. However, before reprinting the issue, Padmanabhan evidently tried to save money by pasting over the offending paragraph. This was easily removed and the concealed text was read by many (I was sent this text as reproduced above). Of course, Sathya Sai Baba must have come to realise that he had gone too far with his rumour mill and that the sheer falsity of this prediction would very soon become evident if he did not exercise damage limitation. In this case, the lie would become evident much too soon for comfort, even allowing for how most Sathya Sai Baba devotees are so well-trained at quickly forgetting, rationalising or denying things that show up their guru's dishonesty, asathya and adharma.

However, the concluding claim in the above article, "Never before has Swami spoken so directly about a future event." is also wholly wrong. One of the most revealing boasts of Sai Baba was in a public discourse in July 1963, as follows:-

"Let me tell you one more thing: Nothing can impede or halt the work of this Avathaara... Formerly when the Govardhanagiri (mountain) was raised aloft by a little boy, the gopis and gopalas realised that Krishna was the Lord. Now, it is not one Govardhanagiri, a whole range will be lifted, you will see!" (Sathya Sai Speaks new ed. Vol. 3, p. 92)

"I will have to forego the car and even the aeroplane when I move from place to place, for the crowds pressing around them will be too huge; I will have to move across the sky; yes, that too will happen, believe Me." (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. II, p. 92)

According to David Jevons of the Ramala Centre, Glastonbury, writing in 2000, Sai Baba "has recently said that we will very soon witness this divine power manifesting in the world. I quote from a recent discourse:
'Many events are going to take place very soon. Many mega projects are going to come up. The time is not far off when people will see me at different places at the same time. I may be travelling in a car, but at the same time I shall be giving darshan at Sai Kulwant hall and at the same time I shall be speaking at the Hillview Stadium.'" The above reported predictions in private are but one of a considerable number of instances in interviews where Sathya Sai Baba has produced maps of the world after massive continental changes (reported by the US devotee Marge Hendel), and also a globe showing the earth after catastrophic changes (widely reported by a Hungarian person who was in Prashanthi Nilayam in early 1985 and also in a very persistent rumour attributed to by a group of Hungarians at an interview. While I was a devotee, I heard several such accounts - always at second hand - and I did not take them seriously until I was given the predictions allegedly made by Sathya Sai Baba to 18 students at Ootacamund by a person who swore they were genuine (Tove Hansen of Denmark) and that she knew parents of the students who had been present. Due to the fact that these incidents took place in interviews and those present were bound over to keep silent about them, they cannot be confirmed by any reliable means. However, the persistence of such different rumours - arising afresh in new connections - through decades is significant in itself.

Nuclear Pollution from underwater explosions in Polynesia to hit New Zealand (1996)

Sai Baba told New Zealanders in interview around Xmas 95 (told to several of my friends in 1996 by Mr. Arthur Hillcoat, leader of the Sai Org. in N.Z.) that the French nuclear tests have released radiation into the ocean which will cause great havoc, ecological destruction and deaths in N.Z. and also in other places thousands of miles distant. (This seemed extremely unlikely at the time and has not proven to have the slightest credibility since.)
Despite this, even Sai followers still publish scaremongering materials about apparently bogus interviews supposedly given by Baba telling of massive earth changes, the likelihood of a coming deluge, materialising maps and even globes of the earth showing drastic changes, the loss of major parts of continents and an entirely new North Pole position.
